Mia's Patio Playtime
A bad batch of potato salad leads to a good time at the cookout ...
This is another entry in “My Filthy Hobby,” little behind the scenes glimpses at the stories I’ve published. If you like this kind of thing, hit the subscribe button; I’ll be putting one of these out every Sunday until I run out of stories (and at the rate I’m churning them out, that may never happen …). You can buy these stories one at a time (some, like “Mia’s Patio Playtime,” are exclusive to Amazon and can be read as part of the Kindle Unlimited program; others are available at most major ebook retailers). You can also subscribe on SubscribeStar or Ream for access to my catalog.
This was the second Fox Run Swingers' Club story that I wrote, but the first that I published. "The Betwixtmas Switch" was still going through the editing phases, but I thought that a shorter introduction to that series was in order.
"Madeline's Awakening" had put me in the mood to write another gangbang scenario, but one a little lighter in tone. "The Betwixtmas Switch" is very much Vanna and Roger's story, and I wanted a chance to highlight Mia, who is the real star of the Fox Run series. Mia emerges as a risk taker who'll try anything once, and also as a woman who knows what she wants and makes sure she gets it. In that way she's very much a sister of the stars of my other gangbang stories.
The Fox Run stories are fun to write because the characters are so lighthearted and easygoing. They have a lot of affection for each other — not just when engaged in their wild swap parties but in general, always happy to pick up the slack and lend a hand. I wanted to give the stories the feel of the old Greenleaf paperbacks of the '60s and '70s, with titles like "Swap Hop", "Swap Sextet", "The Superswappers", "Swapperoo!" — I think you see the pattern here ...
There's something weirdly innocent about the suburban swinger tales of that era, with their highballs and hi-fi's, turtlenecks and bellbottoms. The covers are fun and playful, and the puntastic titles are delightfully silly. Coming off the high drama of "Off the Leash", and the moderate angst of "The Betwixtmas Switch," I wanted a story that was just about friends having fun fucking. There's really not much more to "Mia's Patio Playtime" than that.
Geographically, I think Fox Run is an outer ring suburb of the unnamed city where Casey, Madeline, and Petra live, about halfway to Wasconaway, home of the Wildcats. I have a bonus subscriber story, "Calling Balls and Strikes," in which Cassie Snow's lover Zane visits some houses in Fox Run with Cassie's realtor friend; as I flesh out the Cornelia Quick universe, I may have to adjust that story a bit, as I think Fox Run might actually be a bit far for Zane to consider it within commuting distance of the Wildcats' home field. But I can imagine a crossover story at some point, with the Fox Run gang making a visit to Chester E. Middleton Veterans’ Park Field for some ballpark fun.
Incidentally: if you’d like to dip your toes into the swingin’ ‘60s and ‘70s vibe I’m going for, Triple X Books is running a sale on ebook copies, just $1 each (minimum order $5) through December 2023. There are hundreds of them to choose from, and they’re as dumb and retrograde as you imagine. Take, for example, this representative paragraph from Curt Aldrich’s classic “Too Hot Not to Swap”:
The Pattersons stepped back and let their neighbors in. Paul watched Ginger's ass gyrate past him. It wasn't quite as high or full-blown as Candy's, but it was very good as asses went. And the great thing about it, from Paul's viewpoint, was that it belonged to another man's wife.
You just know things are about to get super spicy at the Pattersons …
