Remember the Acid Queen ...
with a discount on "The Pinball Queen's Debauch"
I learned about Tina Turner’s death from Twitter yesterday, when I saw a writer I follow mention it; I turned on the radio a few minutes later, and the local college station was playing something off “Private Dancer,” which was my introduction to Turner’s music when I was in high school. It wasn’t until college that I discovered her earlier work — those big, ballsy, R&B workouts by the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, and her terrifyingly sexy turn as the Acid Queen in the Who’s “Tommy”.
That Acid Queen performance stuck with me: she was sexy and scary at the same time, seductive and repellent — and perfectly cast for the role.
When I was working on “The Pinball Queen’s Debauch,” I did a little research into the history of Bally tables inspired by “Tommy.” Bally made “The Wizard,” and they made “Captain Fantastic,” but they never made “The Acid Queen.” And that seemed wrong, because if there had been an Acid Queen pinball machine, it’s definitely what Olive from that story would have played.
The great thing about writing fiction is that sometimes you can just make shit up, and so I made up an Acid Queen table that was both challenging to play, even for a wizard like Olive, but also beautiful. Olive gets banged by the crowd, but she makes love to the Acid Queen.
Tina Turner doesn’t make an appearance in “The Pinball Queen’s Debauch,” except as the artwork on the backglass, but I feel like the Acid Queen was there in spirit. This story is, I think, equal parts seductive and repellent — and if you’re reading this newsletter, I think you’ll like it.
And that’s why I’ve got a coupon for it at Smashwords: until May 31, you can get “The Pinball Queen’s Debauch” on Smashwords for just 99 cents with the coupon code XPED4 at checkout.
Give it a try, I think you’ll like it; and then check out the rest of my gangbang books.
