The Betwixtmas Switch
My epic swinger holiday tale
Will you look at that? It’s New Year’s Eve, and I’m sharing a little essay about a story set during Betwixtmas, that weird week between Christmas and New Year’s! This wasn’t planned — I’ve been working through my catalog chronologically for a couple of months, covering a story a week — but the serendipity of it delights me!
This essay, as well as all past and future “My Filthy Hobby” essays, are no longer paywalled. You can read about why here. I’m no longer offering a paid subscription option; everyone who had a paid subscription before December 15 will have received an email with the direction I’ll be taking over the next year to keep the steamy stories coming to you. Meanwhile, if you’re looking for a way to support my work and get a good deal on my smut, you can subscribe at SubscribeStar or Ream, or buy my stories at your favorite ebook retailers or directly from me.
At 51,000 words, "The Betwixtmas Switch" is my longest publication to date. It has also been my most purchased and read title on Amazon Kindle Unlimited.
It started as an attempt to do a hotwife vacation story, which showed up on Medium as "Vacation Pictures" in April 2023. The idea was that sexual adventuress Mia was on vacation with her more reluctant friend, Vanna, and Mia convinces her friend to document her exploits for her husband's pleasure back home and also to lure her into Mia's crazy lifestyle. I published it chapter by chapter on Medium in April and May, alternating between Mia and Vanna at the beach resort, and Bobby (Mia's husband) and Roger (Vanna's husband) back home. It very quickly turned into something other than a hotwife story — it's not my kink, so I have trouble getting it right — but it was too much fun to stop.
The Fox Run Swingers Club gang is a delight to write, because they're all so good, giving, and game, unlike the "Mapping the Boundaries of Love" characters (with the exception of Madeline), who need a little more coaxing to get down to business. They're a nice break from more "serious" stories, and they fit well in a variety of settings. I expect to continue writing their adventures — readers seem to like them, and I enjoy checking in periodically to see what they're up to.
Mia, obviously, is the star of the group. She got her own story in "Mia's Patio Playtime," and I think she'll continue to play that part. She's a little wilder than the rest, always seeking new sensations, and she's also very good at welcoming people into the circle. If there were an evangelist for swinging, it's definitely Mia who would pull the most converts.
Her husband, Bobby, seems a little on the sly side. In the scenes with Roger, he's clearly doing his best to seduce his friend into joining in the club's antics, especially the ugly sweater party (where the sweaters come off pretty quickly ...). He's also a show-off; that scene with Mia's old ballet instructor is over the top. I think that's a thread worth pulling, to understand how Mia became the sexual dynamo she is in these stories.
Vanna was a little resistant to Mia's charms while I was writing the story, requiring some coaxing to get involved in the action. She also took off on a boat trip — a boat trip — in the middle of the story that wasn't part of my original plot. It's sometimes surprising which characters will put up a fuss when I'm working on a story; I didn't expect it to be Vanna in this one.
Roger comes off as a wide-eyed innocent in his first few encounters with the Fox Run crew, particularly when introduced to Gabbie's "freeuse" day. (This is another kink that's super popular but not one that I've been successful in writing.) I wanted him to be as much a target of seduction as Vanna; I find that most erotica assumes that the male characters are game for any and all action, and Roger's initial reluctance is important to the arc of the story.
The character I didn't expect, and who I most want to explore further, is Cait. I've noted elsewhere that she was inspired by a classmate in London, an Irish gal with a foul mouth and bad attitude who absolutely charmed everyone she met. One of my more ambitious story ideas is Cait's coming of age, which I imagine happening one summer on one of the islands off Ireland's west coast — there are hints that she's at least a student of the Irish language, correcting her husband's pronunciation of "mo chuisle" ("my heartbeat", a term of endearment), and I don't think there are nearly enough dirty stories that involve the Irish language. This would be an extremely self-indulgent little project with a tiny audience, I'm sure, but sometimes I like to indulge.
Note that she does get her very own gangbang scene in a subscriber-only story; it’s 4,300 words of pure filth that I pulled out of the original “The Betwixtmas Switch” manuscript because it didn’t really focus on the main characters Vanna, Roger, Mia, and Bobby, but it’s fun and sexy and you can get it on SubscribeStar or Ream.
"The Betwixtmas Switch" is a slightly chaotic, hyper-erotic, and often truly filthy tale. I threw a bit of everything into it, and I'm not entirely convinced it holds together coherently, but it's fun and sexy and readers seem to dig it. So expect more adventures from this crew as they explore more sexy scenarios.
